Ghana’s Right of Abode is permanent residence established under Section 17 of the Immigration Act, 2000 (Act 573).
It allows eligible individuals to live permanently in Ghana, enter and leave visa-free, and work or operate a business without a work permit. It is not citizenship and does not include voting or public-office rights.

Differences between obtaining Right of Abode status and Dual-Citizenship status:
Citizenship offers additional rights, depending on your priorities, including dual-citizenship status and the right to vote or hold public office. Right of Abode, however, has historically enabled Diaspora returnees to return to their ancestral lands.

The Non-citizen Ghana card is the mandatory form of identification to be used in all transactions for e.g.; applying for or renewing residence permit, opening or running a bank account etc.

The Ghana Card is Ghana’s national identification card, issued by the Ghanaian authorities to eligible individuals.
It is available to:
· Ghanaian citizens, whether resident or non-resident
· Foreign nationals who are legal or permanent residents in Ghana
The card serves as official proof of the holder’s identity, citizenship, and residence status.
