Intercontinental Union & Alliances

AFRICAN UNION

Ghana holds a foundational place in the African Union’s history. Its first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, was a principal architect of the Organization of African Unity, the AU’s predecessor.

These roles demonstrate Ghana’s influence on continental policy and its support for African solidarity.

Its participation also reflects a longstanding commitment to peace, security, and development across Africa.

Ghana is expected to chair the AU in 2027 on behalf of West Africa, with a commitment to advancing Continental unity, integration, and development.
